Research Interests and Stay at IEE-ULB

During his research stay at the IEE-ULB, where he spent six months from January through June 2026, Marko advanced his project, which examined the fiscal and labour market effects of childcare investments in relation to EU socio-economic policy objectives. As the European Union implemented its reformed economic governance framework, his work assessed how supranational governance mechanisms shaped national social policies and reforms. The project aligned closely with the IEE-ULB’s research agenda on European economic and social regulation by investigating the interaction between EU governance frameworks and domestic welfare state reforms, including public investments financed through EU funds and the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). By generating robust and policy-relevant evidence, the project contributed to a better understanding of how childcare investments within existing governance frameworks can effectively promote sustainable public finances, stronger labour market outcomes, and greater social cohesion.

IDEAS26 Participation and Presentation

Marko presented a paper at the IDEAS26 Conference on the Social Convergence Framework within the European Semester, examining its role in addressing social inequalities and evaluating its effectiveness in promoting more equitable outcomes across Member States within the EU’s multilevel governance framework.
