The Kant Room is renamed the Corradi Room

In accordance with the decision of the Council of the Institute for European Studies on 16 March 2026, following a participatory consultation, the Kant Room has now been renamed the Corradi Room.

 


In honour of Sofia Corradi (1934–2025)

An Italian lawyer and professor of education, Sofia Corradi played a pivotal role in promoting student mobility and academic cooperation across Europe. She inspired the creation of the Erasmus programme in 1987, which has since enabled millions of students to participate in exchange programmes in other European countries.

With this new naming, the IEE wishes to pay tribute to a figure whose commitment and vision have left a lasting mark on the history of European higher education. This initiative was undertaken to honour a remarkable woman among the figures after whom the IEE’s lecture rooms are named, a group that, until now, had consisted exclusively of men.

Sofia Corradi embodies the values the free exchange of knowledge and interdisciplinarity that lie at the heart of the mission of the ULB’s Institute for European Studies.
