The Master's degree in European law is a bilingual programme worth 60 credits.
The Master's Degree in European Law (LLM in European Law) allows students to develop recognised expertise in European Union law and to take advantage of the exceptional location offered by the ULB in this regard. 

Objectives of this Master's Degree 

This Master's Degree has the ambitious goal of training the experts of tomorrow in European law. It draws on a prestigious academic staff, composed of high-level researchers affiliated with the ULB as well as other international universities (European University Institute in Florence, HEC Paris, etc.), as well as renowned lawyers and members of European institutions such as the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Commission, among others. 

Master's programme in European law 

The Master's programme includes a core curriculum of compulsory courses (European constitutional law, judicial protection in the European Union, the EU and fundamental rights, EU external relations law, and the foundations of competition law and internal market law). 

Students also have the opportunity to focus their studies on a cutting-edge area of European law by choosing optional courses covering a variety of fields such as European economic law, the area of freedom, security and justice, or specific European policies (environment, media, etc.). 

Courses are taught in English and French. This is a deliberate choice aimed at preparing students for their professional careers, as these two languages are among the working languages of the various European institutions. 

Finally, students must write a final dissertation in one of the following three formats: 

  • TFE ‘research’ on a topic related to European law
  • Professional TFE combined with an internship
  • TFE in the form of participation in a moot court competition (European Law Moot Court Competition or other) 

Career opportunities for graduates of this specialised Master's programme 

Upon completion of their specialised Master's degree in European law, students are ready to pursue a wide range of careers related to law and European integration: 

  • judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union
  • legal secretary at the Court of Justice 
  • administrator within European, international or national institutions 
  • lawyer working in various branches of EU law 
  • manager in NGOs or interest groups 
  • teacher/researcher in European law

  • The Master's in European Law enables them to acquire the ability to work in the field of European law in both French and English, and to tailor their programme to their aspirations and objectives, in particular through the possibility of completing an internship.
  • ​​​​​​​Students have privileged access to leading experts in European law through the opportunity to get involved in the academic activities of the Institute for European Studies, the Faculty of Law and the Centre for European Law at the ULB. They can also gain an interdisciplinary understanding of European integration.
