The IEE-ULB organizes, in collaboration with the ECLAN network, this Summer School specifically designed for practitioners, such as lawyers, EU or national civil servants working in criminal matters, as well as researchers and students interested in the EU area of criminal justice.

In its 22nd edition, the program offers an interactive learning experience that blends theory and practice. The sessions are led by renowned scholars, national experts and European officials who engage with these issues daily. 

This year's edition of the ECLAN Summer School will take place from 29 June to 3 July 2026 at IEE-ULB and will be centered on EU procedural rights, and delve into:

  • Negotiating and Adopting EU Criminal Law Instruments
  • Judicial Control
  • Judicial cooperation in criminal matters: efficiency vs. defence rights
  • Approximation of criminal law
  • The interactions between EU procedural rights directives, the charter of fundamental rights, national legal systems and the ECHR
  • The protection of defense rights in the digital era
  • Defense rights in administrative punitive proceedings
  • The new EU framework for victims’ rights
  • The responsibility of EU bodies and agencies vis-à-vis individuals’ procedural rights
